The Servant Girl Treated the Alpha King’s Deadly Beast Like a Gentle Puppy — But When the Monster Bowed Before Her, the King Discovered She Was Hiding a Power That Could Change His Entire Kingdom

Chapter 2

The morning after her first night in the kennel, Lilian woke before the bells and went looking for the kitchen boy.

His name was Stefan. Fourteen years old, with raw fingers from the kitchen knives and a nervous laugh that always came a moment too late. He had caught her hiding bread beneath her sleeve the night before and had asked, in a whisper, why she was still alive.

“I’m not supposed to be,” Lilian admitted. “But I haven’t told him that yet.”

He laughed nervously and handed her a proper bucket, warm water, and a coil of old rope. In exchange, she promised to teach him how to stop a cut from bleeding, because his hands were always torn.

“Be careful with him,” Stefan whispered as she left.

“He’s the one who should be careful,” Lilian said. “I’m very good at talking.”

Varg was waiting for her. He had not moved from the stone where he had slept, but the moment her torchlight touched the chamber, one enormous ear turned toward her.

“Good morning,” she said.
