“Throw This Dirty Girl & Her Dog Out!” — A Clerk Shouted… Unaware She Is The Mafia Boss’s Daughter
Chapter 9
The FBI reached the Sunset Industrial Park warehouse at 2:52 AM.
Ezra arrived at 2:54.
Agent Reeves met him at the perimeter, her expression somewhere between exasperation and grudging respect.
“You shouldn’t be here,” she said.
“And yet here I am.”
They watched as the tactical team moved into position. Twenty agents. Full tactical gear. Every exit covered.
“If he’s in there, we’ll get him,” Reeves said.
“He’s in there.” Ezra’s voice was certain. “He’s been using this place since my mother died. This is where he kept Brutus.”
Reeves looked at him sharply. “How do you know that?”
“The dog’s medical records. Yates found trace elements in his fur and bloodwork. Industrial solvents. Specific compounds used in metalworking. This warehouse handles metal fabrication.”
Reeves swore softly. “You should’ve told me.”
“I’m telling you now.”
The tactical team breached at 3:00 AM exactly.
Flashbangs. Shouting. The chaos of a raid happening in real-time.
Ezra stood at the perimeter and watched. Waited. Every muscle in his body coiled tight.
Then, movement. A figure at the back of the warehouse, running for the loading dock exit.
Vance Marchetti.
Ezra didn’t think. Didn’t calculate. Just moved.
He was through the perimeter and running before Reeves could stop him. Hit the loading dock door just as Marchetti cleared it.
They collided in the parking lot.
Marchetti was fifty-three but solid. Street-fighter build. He swung hard and caught Ezra across the jaw.
Ezra tasted blood. Didn’t care. Swung back and felt bone connect with bone.
They went down together in a tangle of fists and fury.
“You killed my mother,” Ezra said through clenched teeth. “You killed my wife.”
Marchetti laughed. Actually laughed, blood streaming from his nose. “Prove it.”
“I don’t have to prove it.” Ezra got his hands around Marchetti’s throat. “I just have to end it.”
“Valente! Stand down!”
Agent Reeves’s voice cut through the red haze. Ezra felt hands pulling him back—FBI agents separating them, hauling Marchetti to his feet.
“You’re done,” Reeves said, not to Ezra but to Marchetti. “We have your financial records. Your property records. Testimony from Raymond Cross. And now we have the dog.”
Marchetti’s face went white. “What dog?”
“The dog you kept locked in this warehouse for eight years. The dog that belonged to Colette Valente. The dog you took from her car the day you had her killed.”
Marchetti’s expression cracked. Just for a second. But it was enough.
“We’ll find forensics in this building,” Reeves continued. “We’ll find proof that Brutus was here. And once we connect him to Colette’s murder, you’re going away for life.”
Marchetti was silent now. The fight gone out of him.
Agents led him to a waiting vehicle, read him his rights, secured him inside.
Reeves turned to Ezra. “You almost killed him.”
“Almost.”
“If we hadn’t pulled you off—”
“But you did.”
Reeves studied him for a long moment. “Go home, Mr. Valente. Go back to your daughter. Let us handle this now.”
Ezra nodded slowly. His hands were shaking. Adrenaline finally catching up.
“Agent Reeves?”
“Yes?”
“Thank you.”
She nodded. “We’ll be in touch.”
Ezra walked back to where Finn waited with the car. Got in. Closed his eyes.
“It’s over,” Finn said quietly.
“Yeah,” Ezra replied. “It’s over.”
They returned to the safe house at 4:30 AM.
Rosie was still awake, sitting on the couch with Lena and Brutus. When she saw her father walk through the door, she ran to him.
Ezra caught her. Held her. Buried his face in her hair and didn’t let go for a very long time.
“They got him,” he whispered. “He can’t hurt us anymore.”
Rosie pulled back just enough to look at his face. “Are you okay?”
“I am now.”
Lena stood and gave them space. Walked to the kitchen where Finn was making coffee with the methodical focus of someone who needed something to do with his hands.
“Is it really over?” she asked.
Finn poured two cups. Handed her one. “The FBI has Marchetti. They have evidence. They have testimony. Yeah. It’s over.”
Lena wrapped both hands around the warm mug. “What happens now?”
“Now?” Finn smiled slightly. “Now life goes back to normal. Whatever that means.”
