Stepmother Beats Poor Waitress For Feeding Stray Dog — The Mafia Boss Saw Her Scars & Takes Action

Chapter 11

Cassian returned to the diner that night, and this time he didn’t sit at the counter.

He waited in the parking lot until her shift ended.

She came out through the back door, pulling her cardigan tight against the cold. She saw him standing beside his car, and she stopped.

She didn’t run. She didn’t turn back inside.

She simply stood there, waiting—the way she’d learned to wait.

He told her he knew about Renley.

Her face didn’t change. But her hands, which had been tucked into her pockets, came out slowly and hung at her sides.

He told her he knew about the hospital bill. He told her he knew it had been forgiven seven years ago. He told her he knew what Delphine had done.

She didn’t cry. She didn’t speak.

She just stood there, and for the first time since he’d met her, she looked small.

He asked her why she didn’t go to the police.

She shook her head.

“Because Mrs. Whitfield would tell them I’m unstable,” she said quietly. “That I can’t take care of my daughter. That I gave away food to a stray when I should have been saving every cent. That I’m not fit.”

She looked down at her hands.

“And they’d believe her. Because she’s Gerald’s mother. Because she owns that house. Because she has money, and I have nothing.”

Her voice didn’t break. It was just tired.

“And if they believed her, I’d lose the visits. And if I lost the visits, I’d never get Renley back.”

Cassian stood in silence for a long time.

Then he said, “You won’t lose her.”

She looked up at him.

“You won’t lose her,” he said again. “Because I’m going to make sure of it.”
