Single Dad Helped a Lost Girl at the Airport Then Her Billionaire Mother Saw the Name on His Dog..
Chapter 2
Maris Vale had not run anywhere in fifteen years.
She was a woman who walked slowly into boardrooms and let everyone else adjust their pace to hers. She was a woman who could negotiate billion-dollar acquisitions without raising her voice. She was a woman whose composure was legendary — a reporter had once called her “the most intimidating person in American technology” and she had not even bothered to correct the characterization.
But none of that existed now.
She was running through the concourse in heels that were not designed for running, her phone clutched uselessly in one hand, her designer jacket flapping open, her hair coming undone from the careful arrangement she had made that morning. Her assistant, a young man named Derek, was struggling to keep up behind her. Two airport security officers flanked her, speaking into radios, guiding her through the crowd.
“Gate C18,” one of them said. “A male passenger reported finding a child matching the description. He’s staying with her.”
