SEAL’s Daughter Walked Into a Retired K9 Auction Alone — The Dogs Froze When She Said Her Dad’s Name

Chapter 2

The man’s name was Derek Voss, and he wore a suit that cost more than everything Sienna owned. He was the logistics director for a massive overseas security firm — a man whose job was moving assets through the world’s worst places — and to him, the dog on the stage was not a living thing. He was a cheap perimeter alarm for a supply depot in a desert. A fence ornament with teeth.

“Two thousand to the gentleman from Halcyon Global,” Dutch Kane called.

Sienna’s mind raced, sharp and panicked. She could bid it all. Two thousand four hundred and fifteen dollars, every cent, and then she’d have nothing left for a transport crate, for food, for the vet bills a dog like this would need for the rest of his life. But if she didn’t, she would watch her father’s partner go to a chain-link fence in the middle of nowhere and stand there until he died.

She raised the paddle. Her hand trembled so hard the plastic rattled in her grip. “Two thousand four hundred.”
