A Homeless Man Wrapped Three Abandoned Puppies in His Only Coat During a Blizzard — Then a Retired Soldier’s Dog Led a Rescue That Changed a Town

Kodiak walked on the old man’s other side, his body angled to break the wind. Every few steps, the dog would look back, checking that the humans were still following. His ears were rimmed with frost. His breath came in short, steady clouds. He did not slow down.
The old man’s name was Ezra. Caleb learned that between the gusts, when Ezra’s voice surfaced long enough to offer fragments — a name, an apology, a warning about a loose board on the porch that Caleb already knew about.
“Ezra,” Caleb said, gripping the old man’s arm more tightly. “Keep talking. Don’t close your eyes.”
